The Alchemist is a beautiful book by an Brazilian author named Paulo Coelho.   The book is full of beautiful quotes and philosophies, and that makes this book really 'beautiful'.  The protagonist of the novel is a sheperd named Santiago from Andalusia, and an Alchemist follows later over the story.

The boy travels around following his dream and meets the Alchemist with the Philosopher's Stone and the Elixir of Life, and the story gets even more interesting.  The story of 'searching the treasure elsewhere and then finding it in our doorsteps' suggests the capability of this well renowned author, Paulo Coelo.

Paulo Coelho

This book is an international best seller with over 65 million books sold worldwide and has been translated into 72 languages.  This makes us wonder why this book is so famous and everyone who read it liked the book.  It is because of the Author,  the protagonists and the story combined together that makes this book the best.  I liked the book mainly because of the wonderful quotes like, "And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."

There are just few people left in the world to read this book, hope you won't be one of them.

Letters from a Father to His Daughter

Letters from a Father to His Daughter

This is a very popular book by our first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. These letters were written in 1982.This book is a collection of letters that he sends to his daughter in Mussoorie, from Allahabad over the summer. The book is published by Penguin Books and it has a very attractive cover illustration by Ajanta Guhathakurta.  The book consists of 154 pages and costs Rs. 275.
These letters narrate stories of how and when the earth was made, about life and how it began, and how civilizations and societies evolved all over the world! In this book Nehru tells us to read and understand the ‘Book of Nature’. It inspires us to explore new horizons, seek adventure in even a tiny bit of pebble! Observe the little things that together make the Book of Nature and learn from them. Indeed, their stories are much more enchanting than fairy tales!!
In my opinion every girl or boy should read this book. It’ll help to understand a broader meaning of history. Not just by hearting the dates and events before a test and erasing everything after use! But instead, exploring and understanding it by ourselves! I think history would’ve been much more interesting if it was taught in this way!!!!

Rocking Horse Winner

Story name-Rocking Horse Winner
Author-D.H Lawrence

This is a short story. This is the story of a family which included father, mother, a son and two daughters who were unsuccessful with their family life. They felt that they never had enough money for the social position which they had to keep up and all of them heard the house whispering “there must be more money” even though nobody discussed these problems with each other. Their son Paul was unable to withstand such feelings and asked his mother the reason for such poor economic background and she said that her husband was unlucky. Since she married an unlucky man the whole family went unlucky and thus she related money with luck. The boy grew a greed for being lucky and earning money and the story tells us the way in which Paul made money but the end is sad. I insist everyone to read this short story.

The Lighthouse Keeper of Aspin Wall

Story name-The Lighthouse Keeper of Aspin Wall
Author-Henryk Sienkiewicz

This is the story of an old man around seventy years named  Skavinski. He came to occupy the position of lighthouse keeper in Aspin Wall. He sits in his workplace and thinks of his early life. He took up many jobs and left all of them one by one due to lack of success and this was his last job as he felt that his life was coming to an end. The sky is one whole and water the other and between these two the soul of man lies in loneliness says the author but he felt more happiness in his life than ever before. Many memorable moments flashed across his mind and the end of the story is really sad. I felt this story as one of the best stories I have read among short stories and I insist all of you to read this book.

After the dance

Story name-After the dance
Author-Leo Tolstoy

This is a short story by Leo Tolstoy. The central character Ivan Vasileivich was having a conversation with his friends on the impossibility of improving individual character without a change of the conditions under which men live. He is a person who firmly disagrees with one of his friend who told that it is all by environment, that the environment swamps man.He believes that it is all by chance. He began to illustrate those thoughts by relating incidents of his own life. He starts narrating his love story which did not work out well. This is a nice story and I insist all of you to read this book.

The Distinguished Stranger

Story name-The Distinguished Stranger
Author-R.L Stevenson

This is a very short story. A visitor from the neighbouring planet visits earth one day and he was met at the place of his descent by a great philosopher who was to show him everything. The philosopher shows him trees, vegetables, wind, cows in a meadow and the story accounts to show the curiosity of the visitor who has made a visit to the earth from the neighbouring planet. This is the second story I read of R.L Stevenson after Treasure Island. This is an average story that can be read by people of all ages. I insist all readers club members to read this story.
