There is a Girl on the Tracks
This is the continuation and the climax of the story
'There is a Girl on the Tracks', which was given as an
activity in the Readers and Quiz Club on 5th April 2013.
The story continues like this-
The train was approaching with an immense speed and there was no stopping it. The girl Michelle was now saved by Everett with his instant bravery. She is now safe in the hands of Miguel. But Everett, after saving the girl, stood on the train's path with its light gleaming on him. There was nothing for him to do now. The motorman applied full brakes but the train would hit him in just 3 seconds. He cannot save his life by jumping out. There was no hope left for him.
The train was coming for him and all he could do, with his courageous effort, was to lay down in the tracks. He crossed and kept his hand over his chest and lied down between the tracks. With no time the train covered him...No one knew what happened. The only wish the people had was to see him alive. It took 8 seconds for the sparkling brakes to make the train stop.
At this, the officer with Miguel rushed down to the rails. The passengers, who once heard what had happened, came for the big rescue.
Seconds past, down from the tracks, came a drizzling sound. The officer had a peep into the rails. And...with a deep breath, he announced, "He is alive." Within seconds came out the 'Hero Everest'. A huge applause arose from motorman, Michelle...and from all those who witnessed this incident.
The train did him no harm. But this hero became popular among everybody the very next day. Everett and Miguel were praised for they have done, by saving a life. They were awarded with many awards for this social work.
And what just had happened became a memorable incident for many who witnessed it.
