Author- Roald Dahl
Publishers- Puffin Books

Matilda is a wonderful novel written by Roald Dahl. The Protagonist of the story is a five year old girl- Matilda. Matilda is a brilliant girl with horrible mean parents. Matilda's parents are exactly the opposite of other parents- parents who don't care about their child and who likes to scold and irritate her. But her intelligence helps her to give them what they deserve. But in school, the head  mistress, Trunchbull is a person who hates children and Matilda did not have a good time in school. And there is a Miss Honey who understood Matilda's brilliance and who took care of Matilda The book is really interesting from the beginning to end and the reader will surely enjoy the book. A movie of the book is also there.

A Christmas Carol

Author- Charles Dickens
Movie Adaptation- Jim Carrey, 2009

A Christmas Carol is the eight book of of the Victorian Period author Charles Dickens. The Protagonist of the story in Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge who is dead set against Christmas.

The book contains Five Staves The book starts on the day of Christmas eve when Scrooge's dead companion, Jacob Marley's ghost visits him. Jacob tells him about how he is feeling and also tells him about the Christmas Ghosts. Then Scrooge is visited by the three Christmas Ghosts- The Ghost of Christmas Past, The Ghost of Christmas Present and The Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come. These ghosts show him Christmas scenes which dramatically change Scrooge's view about Christmas. The best thing I liked about the book was the style in which it was written. Even though the book is small, the reader will surely be taken to the world of Christmas. A movie of the book has also been made and was released in 2009.

Malgudi Days

Malgudi Days
        - R K Narayan

Another wonderful treat from R.K.Narayan full of delicacies in the form of short stories. Published by Indian Thought Publications. This book has 246 pages full of wit and other emotions and a simple cover. Costs Rs.115. This book is divided into 5 parts – firstly ‘Author’s introduction’, ‘From an Astrologer’s Day’, ‘From Lawley Road’, ‘New Stories’ and finally the Glossary.

If anyone asks me what I did all these holidays I would very well reply that I enjoyed at Malgudi. I know it sounds really stupid ‘cause this place is imaginary and not to be found on any map. But it is true that the author became really successful in creating such a place in the minds of the readers. There are many characters. I am thankful to all of them because they came alive and kept company all these days. It is really difficult to choose a favourite story or character because I liked all. But I’d like to brief you about ‘A Father’s Help’, starring one of my most favourite characters ever – Swami.  Just like us he was also reluctant to get up and go to school on a Monday morning. He lied that he had a headache and his mother and grandmother, as always, supported him but his strict father insisted on his going to school. He excused himself for being so late that he can’t go to school and explained how his class teacher Mr. Samuel used to torture the students who come late to class, adding more masalas by himself while explaining. So his father took it as a challenge and wrote a letter addressing the headmaster, he wrote plenty of things about Mr. Samuel, just the way he had explained. Swami was forced to leave and then he began to regret for having said so much. He thought that he’d give the letter later and walked towards the class hoping that he’d get punished. But his hopes turned out to be wrong and he became so determined to get punished (otherwise he’ll not have any evidence for this letter).

I hope that you will also enjoy your holidays at Malgudi, just the way I did! Just flip through the pages and get ready to be transported to the town of Malgudi!!

I love reading detective and  mystery stories.  I was introduced to the book 'The Lucky Lottery' by my friend, who reads books in this series.  This is just a short story by Ron Roy.  There are three main protagonists are Dick, Josh and Ruth Rose, who goes on a very interesting case of a Seven Million Dollars winning lottery ticket!

Nambooryachanum Manthravum by P.Narendranath

Right from childhood I love reading personality development books.Success means more than money fame or managing tasks well-it is also about getting the best of yourself. The author insists to follow an inside out formula for living success. To be irresistibly attractive also form one of its part.this book tells us to hear our inner voice and to participate in all activities in which we are fully interested. Moreover,it tells us to create time rather than to manage time.how to bring simple luxuries into your everyday life is an excellent chapter of this book. The best message is “when you come from your truth and your heart’s desire, you will have real happiness”.
