The Classroom of the Year Contest - A Brief Overview of the Contest by Akhil

I, Akhil Mohan, of IX B , am before you to give you all a brief idea of the  Story Board Competition that won our class, IX B, the First Place at the National Level. The Project has four parts to it. The first one is the Qualifier: In this the students interview their English teacher, trying to explore her liking for English and the teaching profession in general. We can get into the next round only after we qualify at the first level. Next comes Coach Speak, in which the English teacher has to write an essay of 250 words on an interesting

experience with the selected class. Once you clear this level, you move on to the next one, which is the Children’s Magazine. Here the students have to prepare a manuscript magazine of 20 pages, with illustrations. The last stage is the preparation of the Story board: Here a page of a newspaper has to be designed based on the theme BOOKS.

It was real fun going through the different stages. Eight students from our class had been selected for the Project- Navya, Shweta, Vineeth, Aparna, Prthibha, Gayathri Dileep, Anisha Raj and I. We chose the topic-movies adapted from books. As the time was very limited, we put our heads together and started off at the starting whistle itself. Then it was a week of sitting together, breaking our heads, trying to give shape to our thoughts. Rugmini Madam and Mujib Sir were with us throughout, helping us whenever we got stuck. We were introduced to the MS Publisher by Mujib Sir. The manuscript magazine took shape in one day, a Sunday, when 5 of us sat together and designed the pages and filled them with colours and letters at Rugmini Madam’s place.

When the entire work had been done, we ourselves had a feeling that we would bag a prize.

Akhil Mohanan, IX B
