This is the story of one dog which is a Greyhound.There was a boy named Patrick.He studied in St Thomas' Junior School on Porthcressa Road.He always walked to school along a canal, past the brown sauce factory which somehow smelled both sweet and sour at the same time.His head teacher was Mrs Brightwell who had angry at the tip of her nose.She always shouts at Patrick for being untidy or running in the corridors or day-dreaming or using the word 'whatever', which he most probably used. Mrs Brightwell also hates excuses.
One day when he was going to school,on the towpath there was a swan which usually blocked his way to school.He tried to shoo it away but it didn't .Suddenly he heard a squeaking of puppies.He looked around and then saw a sack in the canal.It was not just floating but as if it was being propelled from inside.So,he thought that something must be there and he removed his schoolbag and jumped to the canal.He swam and saved it.The water was almost cold enough.At the towpath,there was Mr.Boots who was a lollipop man.He was waiting for Patrick to come.After reaching the bank of the river,when they opened the sack they saw five greyhound puppies.When he reached school with the puppies in the sack along with Mr.Boots, Mrs Brightwell was in the assembly area along with the children of the whole school.Mr.Boots told the whole thing happened, to Mrs Brightwell. She appreciated him and also the children too.After all the applause was over and assembly was dismissed,he looked into the sack and only one puppy was so cute that with cute eyes.He asked his parents that can he keep this one puppy as his pet. After so many restrictions they allowed him to.He was so happy and he named it as 'Best Mate'. He started taking Best Mate to the park every evening.Best Mate used to run after other dogs and children in the park.He ran across the bank of the river and also watch the duck and swan swimming in the river.One day when he gone for the rounds,Best Mate didn't came back.Patrick thought that he would come after half an hour,but he didn't.He complained to Police Station.They searched for him everywhere but didn't get him.After that...Best Mate became Brighteyes and then Paddywack. When I was reading I was very curious to know what will be happening next.There will be more anxiety as you read. My friend Archana suggested me this book as she love dogs the most.She is a dog lover.
