THE WHITE TIGER
ARVIND ADIGA
THIS BOOK HAS WON THE MAN BOOKER PRIZE FOR THE YEAR 2008.
The book opens with the musings
Balram Halwai has with Mr Premier, his excellency, and Wen Jiabo of beijing
through a letter. His story is being narrated through these letters. Balram
halwai ,the central character of the story, is looking for a job in the beginning
of the story.he gets a job as a driver in landlords house. He also gets an
oppurtunity to stay away from the village chaos and accompany his master Mr.Ashok
and his wife Pinky to Delhi for three months .There he sees how big the city
has been exploited over the years. One night it so happened that Pinky madam
drives the car and she hit a child on the road .But in Delhi the case ws
different. For a death caused by a master the driver had to face the
consequence (go to jail).
Later in
the story Mr.Ashok’s wife leaves him and go back to her house .This is the time
when everything changes, including Balram’s innocent master –Ashok. He gets
exploited. For the driver too it’s the same fate.In the end balram murders his
master.
I liked this book because of
the special way Adiga uses to exhibit facts .His language is really simple to
read as well as very unique.
