This is the first book in this series by Jeff Kinney. In this book we have some pages of the diary, or rather ,a journal of Greg Heffley. I like the way this book is published by puffinbooks. Each page is like a normal page of a diary. The font which is used in this book looks like a kid’s handwriting. The cartoons give life to this book. The cover page is also attractive. It has 217 pages.
The journal consists of 9 months- September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April and May. The main characters are Greg Heffley and his family, his friends like Rowley Jefferson and Fregley. As mentioned in the title itself, this boy is a really weak and timid kid. Throughout this book we can read about the funny incidents in his home as well as in school. In the first month – September we can have a good start by knowing more about him and the people around him. We can read about how he was feeling when he got to middle school from the elementary school. Then we can know what a cheese touch is and other funny incidents in his school. It is mainly about his Halloween preparations and celebration in October. They tried to make a haunted house of their own but in vain. In November, we get to know about the wrestling unit in his school. In December it is about his Christmas celebrations and about his school play. In January it is mainly about how he spent his vacation and also about the happenings after reopening. In February it snowed for the first time in that winter. His cartoons got published in the school newspaper. In March, April and May it mentions about his enrollment as a Patrol and then about a mistake that he committed and how he gets paid for it.
On the whole this book is really fun and has a small message also. I would recommend this book to students in 6th and 7th standard. The readers will thoroughly enjoy this book, just the way I did.
