The book opens with the musings Balram Halwai has with Mr Premier, his excellency, and Wen Jiabo of beijing through a letter. His story is being narrated through these letters. Balram halwai ,the central character of the story, is looking for a job in the beginning of the story.he gets a job as a driver in landlords house. He also gets an oppurtunity to stay away from the village chaos and accompany his master Mr.Ashok and his wife Pinky to Delhi for three months .There he sees how big the city has been exploited over the years. One night it so happened that Pinky madam drives the car and she hit a child on the road .But in Delhi the case ws different. For a death caused by a master the driver had to face the consequence (go to jail).
Later in the story Mr.Ashok’s wife leaves him and go back to her house .This is the time when everything changes, including Balram’s innocent master –Ashok. He gets exploited. For the driver too it’s the same fate.In the end balram murders his master.
I liked this book because of the special way Adiga uses to exhibit facts .His language is really simple to read as well as very unique.

I got this book issued from the library almost a week back, I went to the library actually for reserving a book  but as there were children in all the computers of the library I couldn't reserve it. It was then that I noticed this book on the shelf.
I was so happy that got a book that I was longing to take. I got this book issued and ran to my class panting.
As mentioned earlier this book is written by ENID BLYTON. There are 21 stories containing the loveliest adventures. I have already completed 10 now which mean almost half of the series.
Most of my friends don’t like the famous five. And always tease me for taking this book. But all the while I ignore them.
My most favourite character is GEORGE actually GEOGINA. George is actually a girl, but she don’t like her being described as a girl. At first she was a rebel always creating a kind of nuisance for her mother Fanny.
The famous five include Julian, Dick, George, Anne and Timmy [Timothy] the dog. They ARE ALL MARVELS. I always like to be an adventurous soul but where I can’t ever do such a thing.
The first part of the famous five is five on a treasure island. I like it too.
George and the others are cousins. Geoge’s father Mr. Quentin is a scientist and is always a hot tempered man forgetting the most important things and blaming poor old Aunt Fanny for that. Aunt Fanny, Uncle Quentin and George live in Kirrin Cottage. Gorgoes George has an island for her own. At first she is just like her father, but when her cousin come and visits her she is good, no they made her good.
George was first studying in a separate school but after meeting her cousins she goes to a boarding school with Anne. The boys go to another school. Timmy the marvel is very loyal and loves his mistress a lot. George will do anything to not get Timmy hurt; she is also very loyal & truthful.
This book is the 12th version of the famous five series. This book contains the story of the five going to the Tremannon farm on their holidays. There they meet Mrs:Penruthlan in whose house they stay for the hols. In this story the five help the Tremannon people to escape from the clutches of smugglers and what do they find ??!!
This you will have to find out by reading the whole book..
So just like me have faith in you & then you can successfully complete the whole version.
Have a good time reading. Enjoy every bit of it.

The best creativity of J.K.Rowling in my opinion is undoubtedly the story of Harry Potter. I never hesitate in taking a book of the Harry Potter series. It is remarkably wonderful. This book is the 4th edition of the whole series. There are 7 books which thoroughly are wonderful. One should read these books in order to understand the actual story. Many of my friends just say that I am mad to take these huge books. One may feel it is too hard to read a big book but what’s the point in judging the book without reading it?
This story has lot of characters. Our main character is the brave & lucky Harry Potter. He has got 2 best friends. One is from the Weasley Family who has got 6 children with read heads and his name is Ronald Weasley. Harry calls him Ron. The next is from Granger Family and her name is Hermoine Granger. As this is about the magic world there is nothing here but magic, witches, & wizards. One who comes from a family that has been having 2 or more wizards or witches in every generation is called as a true blood. If they have only had 1 wizard or witch in its generations it is known as a half blood.
Ron in this case is a true blood a Hermoine is a half blood. This story starts with Harry hurting his scar very badly. It is believed that his scar usually hurts when Lord Voldemort is near or is rising to power. Lord Voldemort is a dark wizard in case he is the most fearsome dark wizard. He is called the father of dark arts. 13 years before when Harry was a young baby Lord Voldemort had tried to kill him but could not and he lost all This is a curse which will kill anybody on the spot [as it is said in the book]. And there is only who has survived and he is none other than       Harry Potter. Lord Voldemort for all his services is called He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named or because he is may be feared or hated by every one no one even utters his name and he is called You-Know-Who. This story results in the death of a poor and innosent 6th year named Cedric Diggory. One thing I didn’t like is that there is no Quidditch Tournament in this book. But there was an other competition named Triwizard Tournament. There are many rules, regulations, and moreover conditions & age limits which made me furious.

The rest of the story should remain a secret as only then you will be tempted to read the book.

The magical mirror and matsuyama

This story is about a small girl. She was the only child her parents had, so they raised her with a lot of love and care. Her parents loved her that much that they couldn’t leave her for even a minute. But the fate was against her and her parents. Her father had to go to a distant country for a trade .The house was full of tears when her father left. But before he left he asked her girl “will you be a good girl when I’ am not in the house”. She replied quickly “Of course daddy”. Then he said if you will be a good girl I will bring you a doll and he left. Years passed, the little girl grew into a young girl. She learned how to cook. After 3 Years her father came back. The girl was so happy. As he promised he brought a doll for his daughter and a mirror for his wife. Years went by. There was happiness all around the house. The girl grew into a young lady .As years went by her mother fell ill and was unable to stand. One day her mother called her and said “I will breathe my last breath today or tomorrow so I want to show you something” Matsuyama asked what that is with her filled eyes. Her mother replied “There is a box under my bed. In that box there is a mirror. After my death if you want to see me you just look at that mirror”. With these words she took her last breathe. After her mothers’ death her father was forced to marry once again. As he married there was a problem, his daughter was older than his wife. There was an ego problem between the step mother and Matsuyama. The step mother thought Matsuyama would kill her and was afraid. She started to harass Matsuyama and she was so sad. One morning when she remembered her mothers last words. She took the mirror and she saw her mother and they started to talking to each other . Matsuyama’s stepmother heard her talking to somebody. She thought Matsuyama was making a plan to kill her.She complained about this to her husband and he started to beat Matsuyama. Poor Matsuyama didn’t know why her father was beating her. At the end he asked her, "Did you try to kill your stepmother?" she replied innocently. Then she said all the things that had happened .Then her step mother understood everything and told sorry to Matsuyama and lived happily ever after. I think everybody should read this book .It is written in a simple language and is a mind blowing story.

Treat Your Books Well!

How to Select a Good Book

The cover of the book is the first to check. Looks good? Go on, take it.
But remember – a book cannot be judged only by its cover.

Go through the summary given on the back cover or inside flap. Does the book sound like something you would enjoy?

Skim the text, specially look for illustrations. Good pictures will help you understand the topic better for non-fiction books and it will be an added attraction for stories and novels. Here your age also matters!

Check the New Arrivals Rack in the library or the bookstore.

Look on the recently returned bookshelf. You will get some good choices. It's a good guest that the books taken by someone else may be a good one.

Get suggestions from your librarian, who would be glad to help you and may be knowing your likes and dislikes!

Ask the recommendations of your friends and ofcourse, discuss the books you have read.

Your teachers are the best sources. Read the books they might have discussed in the class.

Check the credentials of the authors. If you liked a book by an author, most probably you would like his other works too!

Go for books published by well-known publishers. They select their books and authors judiciously. So you can rely on them.

Browse through the library shelves. Something will catch your eye.

Read the book reviews on Newspaper, Magazines and Internet.

A Word of Caution

"No good book, or good thing of any kind, shows its best face at first"
- Carlyle

So, do not judge a book by reading just the first few pages.

Like the Flowing River by Paulo Coelho

Like the flowing river, the book leads us to the mysteries of life through a collection of thoughts and short stories. The short stories and events given in the book are really inspirational.

The author expresses his reflections on a variety of subjects from literature and history, from books and libraries.  Unlike other books of the same kind, "Like the flowing river" is very simple and straight forward and is easy to comprehend by all age groups. The book reveals before us the truth and beauty of life and touches our heart.

The instructions "How to climb a mountain" provides the secrets to achieve your dreams! Through the meaningful stories he offers his thoughts on spirituality, life and morals and urges to make a difference quoting Robert Frost.

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the differece"

"How many of the things we do are really necessary, and how many are simply absurd"

The Japanese story on the Zen Master's Cat reveals our mentality towards the futile 'cats' that we are following which have no foundation.
Go for it and you will not regret the time and money spend.

The following story is taken from the book:

The Story of A Pencil

A boy was watching his grandmother writes a letter.
At one point, he asked: 'Are you writing a story about what we've done? Is it a story about me?'
His grandmother stopped writing her letter and said to her grandson: 'I'm writing about you, actually, but more important than the words is the pencil I'm using. I hope you will be like this pencil when you grow up.'
Intrigued, the boy looked at the pencil. It didn't seem very special. 'But it's just like any other pencil I've ever seen!' '
'That depends on how you look at things. It has five qualities which, if you manage to hang on to team, will make you a person who is always at peace with the world.'
'First quality: you are capable of great things, but you must never forget that there is a hand guiding your steps. We call that hand God, and he always guides us according to his will.'
'Second quality: now and then, I have to stop writing and use a sharpener. That makes the pencil suffer a little, but afterwards, he's much shaper. So you, too, must learn to bear certain pains and sorrows, because they will make you a better person'.
'Third quality: the pencil always allows us to use an eraser to rub out any mistakes. This means that correcting something we did is not necessarily a bad thing; it helps to keep us on the road to justice'.
'Fourth quality: what really matters in a pencil is not its wooden exterior, but the graphite inside. So, always pay attention to what is happening inside you'.
'Finally, the pencil's fifth quality: it always leaves a mark. In just the same way, you should know that everything you do in life will leave a mark, so try to be conscious of that in your every action.'

So try it and post your views here.
