Suspicious things happen in the house .Calculus leaves for Geneva to attend a conference in nuclear physics.Following the departure of Calculus, there are no breakings in the house. Tintin suspects Calculus for these strange happenings. While investigating the professor's laboratory ,Tinttin and captain find a strange device. A masked man escapes from the laboratory from Tintin and captain. Tintin then finds a ignition key and a cigarette packet in which it is written 'Geneva Hotel Cornavian'. Suspecting that the professor is in danger, Tintin, captain and Snowy leaves for Genva.
A lot of adventures happen in Geneva, which includes the attack on Tintin, bombing of a building in which Tintin was there and the missing of Calculus. Later it becomes clear that Calculus has invented a new device for which two countries named Syldavia and Borduria are competing. Following a lot of adventures, Tintin, Snowy, Captain and Calculus reach home.
Though the book is a comic, it feels that we are reading a novel. The author has designrd the book so well that once we start reading, we will not close the book till we finish it.
