To Kill a Mocking Bird

To Kill a Mockingbird

Author: Harper Lee
Publisher: Random House
ISBN: 978-0099549482

A rusting feel emulated from this book as I read it. It was almost lifelike seeing the world through the eyes of a 9 year old scout. Scout or Jean Louise is perhaps my favourite character and her observatios are delightful. The story mainly revolves around bigotry and racism i the South during the 1930s. The plot centers on Atticus Finch, a small time lawyer who defends a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. During the trial Scout slowly learns about the hypocrisy and prejudice of the adult world.
The story's appeal mainly lies in the vivid eccentric characters of the Maycomb county, the observations of Scout, who by far is a sensitive child and a plea for social justice.
The novel brought Lee the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. The motion picture adaptation of the book won three Academy Awards. Gregory Peck and Mary Badhan played the rold of Atticus and Scout.
Harper Lee's second book is the "Go Set a Watchman". Truly the novel is one fine piece of literature.
